Value Achieved in Environmental, Health & Safety Management

Executive Summary

Understanding and managing risk in today’s environment requires a new paradigm in managing the interconnections and relationships of EH&S risk and compliance. EH&S executives need to stay on top of their game by monitoring risk to their organization both internally (e.g., operations, processes, systems, and data) and externally (e.g., threat, competitive, legal, and geographic environments) to stay competitive in today’s economy, and lead the organization in GRC management. Organizations must understand risk and make risk-informed business decisions to effectively manage risk across the enterprise, which is enabled through intuitive and easy to use technology that makes EH&S more efficient, effective, and agile in the organization.

Transnet Engineering (TE) is a subsidiary and an Advanced Manufacturing Division of Transnet SOC Ltd that designs, manufactures, supplies and remanufactures rolling stock in South Africa and beyond its borders. Transnet Engineering (TE) provides in-service maintenance, repair, upgrade, conversion, manufacture, and upgrade of locomotives, wagons, coaches, rolling stock components and associated transport equipment. The state of EH&S affairs at Transnet Engineering was a distributed maze of approaches. Different depots and Factories  were left to themselves to develop their own approaches to EH&S processes, and in that context to ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 compliance. Transnet Engineering, under the leadership of the Divisional Executive of Compliance and Regulatory Affairs, determined they needed to standardize and automate the company’s EH&S processes. They decided to look for an intuitive and agile EH&S solution. After evaluating solutions available in the market they chose IsoMetrix.

GRC 20/20 has evaluated and verified the implementation of IsoMetrix at Transnet Engineering, and confirms that this implementation has achieved measurable value across the elements of GRC efficiency, effectiveness, and agility. In this context, GRC 20/20 has recognized Transnet Engineering and IsoMetrix with a 2019 GRC Value Award in the domain of EH&S Management.
